Adventures in Movable Type
Getting Movable Type going was easy enough, the installation instructions are quite good. Playing around, it's not hard to understand why so many Radio Userland blogs have been making the switch. MT's templating system offers a great deal of flexibility without requiring code...
Movable Type's XML-RPC interface, however, leaves something to be desired. The MetaWeblog API is there, but it cannot be used for category-routing, and none of MT's additional metadata is accessible. MT has it's own methods that handle category-routing and trackback. Bleh.
Factoring in what Pyra has been silently doing to extend the Blogger API, it is looking difficult to build weblog client software that can provide the best user experience possible across a number of weblog systems. Pocket Blog is probably going to wind up using a plug-ins architecture to support functionality beyond the original Blogger API.
