Kicking the Habbit

I'm in the process of quitting cigarettes. I've been a heavy smoker for about ten years. It's hell to stop. If you've ever gone 24 hours without eating, that's exactly what it feels like to stop smoking. The desire for a cigarette is indistinguishable from hunger, and eating will not satisfy it.

I'm at 72 hours. For ten days prior I cut my consumption by 75%, I stopped smoking in my own home.

I haven't been posting much because I'm trying to stay away from my computer when I'm not actively doing something with it. Surfing the web and writing blog entries are prime activites for chain-smoking.

I've eliminated my at-home caffine consumption too, my body seriously hates me right now.

Return from Italy! Two transatlantic flights, two amazing cities, two dozen incredible meals, more wine than I can remember, more cappuccino than wine, 277 digital pictures, three rolls of film, and an engagement (not mine!).

Italy is an amazing place, any single thing can make the whole trip worthwhile. I've had coffee from vending machines in Italy better than any cup I have ever had in America. It's hard to have a bad meal, nearly impossible to have a meal without wine, and (off-season) you would be hard-pressed to spend $60 on a seven-course dinner for two.

But for me, Italiy is best for shopping. In Milan there is the weekend fleamarket in the Navigli district, with great deals on music and leather goods. At the end, past the African art area, there is a tiny Native American section. Walk towards Il Duomo and you'll pass through a "hobby shop" district, much of my collection of 1:18th scale model cars came from there. Il Duomo is pretty much surrounded by fashion, even a fat-ass like me can find great dress shirts for $15.

Slashdot: Episode II Surpasses $116 Million at Box Office

I saw it tonight at Muvico, interestingly enough they aren't showing it in any of their Premier theaters (nice balcony seats, adults-only, double the price of regular seats). Anyhow, I'm not sure what all of the fuss is about. In all respects Episode II is much better than Episode I. It ain't fine cinema, it's George Lucas.

(Bad lines and borderline actors are Lucas trademarks, check out the original Star Wars some time!)

That said, Spider-Man was better, and I'll probably enjoy MIIB more than either of them.
